I knew I was fixated on the election, but that point was driven home this week when I suddenly realized that the publication of While My Sister Sleeps is coming up fast. For those of you who don't know, this is the title of my next new hardcover. No reissue of an old book, this is a brand new one that I finished writing in May. Read a synopsis of While My Sister Sleeps, along with a few author comments, in my Books page.
The official publication date is February 17, 2009. But you, my dear reader, may be able to get an early copy of the book.

I am giving away one signed Author's Galley, which is a bound,
uncorrected version of the novel. Familiarly known as an ARC (Advance
Reader's Copy), this Author's Galley is usually reserved for bookstore
buyers and reviewers - except that they don't get a copy signed by me!
All you have to do to enter the contest is visit my Contact page and mention the While My Sister Sleeps drawing. Deadline for entries is January 1, 2009, after which I will put all entries in a hat, close my eyes, and pick a winner. Bonne chance!

Hi Barbara,
I look forward to your new book as I've read all your old ones and I've loved them all!
I've been curious as to why you no longer have artwork on the covers of your new books? Why you and other authors( or I should probably say publishers) now use photos? I love art so I miss covers like the old ones.
Regards,
Carolyn
Like hemlines and shoulder pads, book cover styles go in and out of fashion. Publishers make all of the decisions here, and they want a new book to look fresh and modern. Right now, in their minds, that means photography. I'm sure art will return to favor at some point.
as much as I would love to win this, I've already gotten my gift from you this year! Good luck to all who enter.
The book sounds great, I am sure I will love it. Rita Amaral
