ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON?

If you are, then you must be suffering as I am with the darkness of autumn.  Oh yes, the sun has been bright this fall, the foliage gorgeous, and the air warmer than the norm.  But all that happens after eight in the morning.  I'm here in my office at six, with windows to my left and right showing ... nothing at all.  It's like it's the middle of the night.

So what do I do?
I turn on all the lights and I tell myself that I'll be turning them off again in a few hours, because I know that the sun will be streaming in.  Chelsea will be lying in a patch of it.  It may even hit my computer screen, certainly a nice problem to have.

Seasonal Affect Disorder (SAD), a.k.a. winter depression, comes in all shapes and sizes.  I doubt I have it.  But boy, there are times when I detest the early morning darkness.

This year, thanks to Congressional action and the way the calendar falls, we turn the clocks back the first weekend in November.  We morning folks will be thrilled.  For a little while at least, until we hit those short-short-short days of December, we'll have light.

You night owls whose sleep may be disturbed by that streaming early-morning sun?  Sorry.  It's our turn.  Just for a bit.

Seasonal Affect Disorder.  Fact or myth?  What's your thought?

I have a friend for whom it's very real, so I see it as a fact. She keeps lights burning even in the daytime to supplement the lower level of natural light. Unfortunately that adds guilt to her problems as she feels strongly about the world's need to conserve energy.

It'll make it sooooooooooo much easier to be up and moving for work before 6 am if there is some HINT of light anywhere. What happens now is that I shower, brush my teeth, etc. in the dark b/c artificial light is too painful first thing in the morning and then, turn on the smallest light possible to find clothes and head out the door. A little natural light outside would soften the morning blow just a bit. :)

I am with you Barbara-here in Ohio, the sun rises even later than it does on the East Coast. I have been out here for 15 years and don't like it any better now than I did then. I HATE the extended Daylight Savings Time-the kids here are going to school in the dark. Where is the energy savings? We have morons running our government and it has never been more apparent than in this election year. My favorite day of the year is the Winter Solstice when the days start lengthening again. I am a much happier person in the sunlight!
